ENTREPRENEURS, FREELANCERS AND THEIR WORKSPACES PUT TO THE TEST BY COVID19, AN ANTI-CAFÉ AND HIPTOWN SURVEY
76% of respondents plan to use coworking and café-coworking facilities.
Paris, May 29, 2020
Anticafé and Hiptown, café-coworking and coworking spaces, launched a survey in April 2020 aimed at entrepreneurs and freelancers and their workspaces during Covid19. More than 400 people were surveyed, including over two-thirds entrepreneurs and freelancers and 30% employees or students.
Coworking in demand
– 76% of respondents plan to use workplaces such as coworking and café-coworking facilities once the lockdown is over, compared with 61% before the lockdown.
– The main motivating factor in turning to a coworking space is the friendly working atmosphere (39% of potential users), ahead of the possibility of benefiting from an equipped space and opportunities to develop professional networks.
– Once deconfinement is complete, 27% want to change their main place of work.
– A third of respondents noted that their accommodation was unsuitable for their professional activities. This issue primarily concerns the physical space, with the IT environment generally well adapted.
Some deltas by generation
Having access to an equipped space remains a major issue for the under-30s (No. 1 motivation for 3 out of 10 respondents who say they would be open to using a coworking space), while opportunities to develop their professional networks are more strategic as respondents get older.
Productivity through better use of time
– 56% of respondents felt that confinement had boosted productivity by saving them time in the absence of travel, and 47% valued the flexibility gained in organizing their working hours.
But a confinement that’s not always easy to live with
– Conversely, 46% find isolation difficult to cope with, and 39% acknowledge a drop in motivation, while almost half(49%) deplore the lack of synergies with colleagues, partners or service providers, and 57% deplore the fact that their professional network has been put on stand-by.
